cup of sugar

So tonight I tried to be a good neighbor but I failed (or chickened out, you choose)
Anyways I had a craving for something sweet and having nothing in the house to fill the craving I decided to bake. Nothing fancy, just some rainbow chip cupcakes from the box. But being only one person a whole box of cupcakes is a lot!
So I thought I would share.
I iced my cupcakes, arranged them on a plate, and stepped out into the hallway to take some over to the people who live across from me.
(I would also like to add that prior to doing this I looked out my back window to make sure their were vehicles parked, and their were.)
Anyways I am standing outside the door. I knock and wait. I hear the TV and maybe someone talking on the phone. But no footsteps.
I feel bad at this point in time for potentially interrupting the possible phone conversation and awkward because I have been standing in the hallway for a little while now.
So I went back to my apartment because I felt too silly now to knock again.
This seems very strange to me, that I feel silly for trying to be nice.
Admittedly me and my neighbors don't actually have a relationship. We have passing "hello's" and sometimes when they burn things in the oven they open their door real wide to try and air it out as quickly as possible. So then I see snippets of their life. Mostly I notice that they are neater than I am, but really that doesn't take much. They also let me borrow a swiss army knife at one point in time. So I guess I tried to repay the favour. But I failed. Or maybe I will try again. Or maybe I will just take some cupcakes into work tomorrow.

You shouldn't feel silly for trying to be nice to your neighbours. It's too bad for them. Those cupcakes look fantastic!

oh man, nothing worse than the awkward neighbor knock! i feel your pain. valiant effort though, i guess the cuppycakes just weren't meant to be theirs! so maybe you should just mail them to me instead. (coincidentally i just had that exact flavor of cupcake on saturday night at a birthday party for a 10 year old. hahah.)(we also watched happy days and talked A LOT about Twilight.)(which i have never seen nor read.)(but she insists i will have to borrow her book & dvd when she is done with them hahah.)

As for the neighbours...screw 'em. Don't feel bad, it's their loss. I think that was rude of them!
When I hear a knock at my door, my heart jumps a bit, thinking its the landlord, cuz I have a little companion that lives with me, and she's not supposed to. Anyway, I am too nosy and just HAVE to look. But, I always answer the door.
